Quick And Easy Everyday Makeup With Inika Organic

Inika Organic
I barely leave the neighborhood on weekdays anymore, and I'm usually just out for a couple of hours to take Aidan on his daily stroller walks or to run errands. This also means I rarely have the need for a full face of makeup, but I still like to take a few minutes to look nice even if I haven't showered in a few days and the apartment is falling apart, hah!
The Choosy Chick recently sent me a few Inika Organic products that I have been testing, with the goal of a simple makeup routine that you can easily replicate if you're a minimalist or always in a time crunch like me.

If you haven't heard of Inika Organic, it is a certified organic, vegan, cruelty-free and halal makeup line from Melbourne, Australia made from ingredients that are ethically sourced and natural and derived from botanicals or minerals. In fact, they hold a squeaky clean EWG rating of 1-3 and have won over 35 awards for product excellence and innovation, so you know they're the real deal.

Let me walk you through what I've done for the quick 5-minute everyday look you see above (pockmarks and white hair optional):

  • I start by using 1-2 pumps of Inika's Certified Organic BB Cream in Honey ($45.00), which is a yellow-based shade that is a perfect match for my olive skin tone. I find it works best when I apply it directly onto my face with my fingers- when I used a brush I needed twice as much product and it ended up too cakey. This silky BB cream contains a nourishing base of Prickly Pear, Pomegranate, Avocado and Jojoba oils that will impart a lovely glow on your face and provides light-to-medium coverage that is classic "your skin but better".

  • I then squeeze out a pea-sized amount of the Certified Organic Perfection Concealer in Medium ($29.00) and dab with my ring finger around my eyes and over my hyperpigmentation. I love how easily and smoothly this blends in- it has a liquid consistency but goes on like a cream, with absolutely no creasing. It also doubles as an eyelid primer, score!

  • Now that the "canvas" is ready, I move on to the Certified Organic Eye Pencil in Coco ($22.00) for both my brows and eyes. It can be a little harsh if I draw my brows on directly with the pencil, so I run my brow brush over the pencil tip to get the pigment out and apply with the brush for a more gentle look (but go ahead if you like your brows BOLD!). I then use the pencil directly on my lids for a understated cat eye and clean up the ends with a Q-tip. The formula is soft and creamy and doesn't smudge, although if you have slightly oily lids like mine, you will want to set it with a little powder so it stays better. The clean ingredients mean that they will not irritate sensitive eyes, and I've had no problem with my contacts!

  • The bestseller in the range is their Vegan Long Lash Mascara in Black ($32.00), with ultra-conditioning ingredients Vitamin E, Magnolia Bark Extract and Sunflower Oil. The magic is in the new voluminous brush head which allows the right amount of mascara to be applied each time so it doesn't clump up- the first coat will lengthen your lashes and the second will add volume. To be honest I still prefer my Honest Beauty Mascara + Lash Primer and Hynt Beauty Nocturne Mascara for more dramatic lashes, but the Inika one does a good job too and it doesn't smudge or flake for me!

  • One of my favorite time-saving trick (and great if you want to pack less for travel) is using a lip product as a blush as well. The Certified Organic Vegan Lipstick in Pink Poppy ($29.00) is described as a "deep nude pink shade with earthy/coral undertones" and is such a universally flattering and wearable color! The best part? It has no FD&C colors and contains no carmine, beeswax or other animal byproducts. I swipe the lipstick directly onto my cheeks and blend with my fingers for a subtle flush and then onto my lips. It does have a matte finish which may be drying for some, so I recommend wearing a lip balm underneath or topping up with a gloss.

I am the queen of awkward selfies, but this look literally takes me less than 5 minutes and makes me look more put-together than I feel inside.
Bottom line? Inika Organic gets a big thumbs up from me, and their handy products are definitely something I can bring on-the-go with me if I need touching up. P/S: If you're unsure what shades you are, you may want to try using the Foundation Finder on their website or pick up a Makeup Trial Pack ($7.95) to help you decide!
