Boxwalla Beauty: The Chronicles Of A Plant Lab

We first caught a glimpse of Twelve Beauty in the Boxwalla Beauty Box last April when their exquisite Ideal Level Moisture Serum was featured alongside fellow English brand Amly Botanical, and since then I've kept a keen eye on them. I was delighted to see them making a comeback on Boxwalla, with a dedicated brand box at that!

Twelve Beauty is an impeccably-formulated skincare line that, as Boxwalla so beautifully describes, "exemplifies the magic that happens when the beauty of nature meets the rigors of science". Founder Pedro Catala is a practicing pharmacist, cosmetologist and university lecturer with degrees in Botany, the Science & Technology of Cosmetics and a PhD in Natural Formulation Technologies. In other words, he knows exactly what he's doing.

When you use a Twelve Beauty product, you don't have to stress out about decoding the ingredient list- all their products are formulated with sensitive skin in mind, using only plant-based ingredients that work synergistically to improve skin functionality and promote healthy skin. Scented with floral extracts and essential oils and completely free from problematic ingredients like  parabens, sulphates, silicones, petrochemicals and glycols, the entire collection holds up to the stringent requirements in green chemistry.
Boxwalla Beauty Twelve BeautyTwelve Beauty The London Mask (£ 86.00/$122.00)

The London Mask is Pedro's paean to the city he has called home for the last 15 years, stemming from his desire to create something to help eliminate the  toxicity of city life.

This mask is a serious game-changer, as a clay mask that washes off like a nourishing cream cleanser (you have to try it to know what I mean) and leaves your skin feeling really soft and moisturized, thanks to a combination of organic rice, purified kaolin and natural squalene, enriched with comfrey derivates, mallow flower, cucumber extract and the purest vitamin B5. Don't worry about the parfum- it's a certified organic blend of essentials oils and incredibly relaxing for the mind I find myself leaving the mask on for longer just to enjoy the aromatherapeutic benefits!

Plus talk about labor of love- the preparation of the handcrafted mask is so complex that only 50 units can be made each month, and you can't help but feel special slathering this on your face. I saw result just from a thin layer on the very first use, and combined with the brightening serum I felt like a brand new woman. Scroll down for photographic proof!

Ingredients: Aqua, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Oryza Sativa Starch*, Kaolin, Zinc Oxide, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glycerin*, Squalane, Panthenol, Glyceryl Stearate, Potassium Cetyl Phosphate, Glyceryl Laurate, Mallow Sylvestris Flower Extract*, Allantoin, Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil*, Tocopherol*, Xanthan Gum, Benzyl Alcohol, Dehydroacetic Acid, Parfum*, Limonene and Linalool
*Organic Ingredients
This little bottle of Ideal Brightening Corrective Serum may just be one of my favorite green beauty invention of all time, and I use it both as a night serum and a day moisturizer and makeup primer. If Pedro throws in SPF (can he?) I think this would be the perfect formulation.

The ingredients for this read like a walk through an English herb garden, with the usual suspects like mallow, cucumber, lemon balm and yarrow and the more exotic ones like heath speedwell, primula, buddleja and lady's mantle, all potent selections that work together to reduce the intensity of dark spots, correct uneven complexion and provide a more radiant skin tone. It is lightweight and quickly absorbed into the skin, and I am trying not to gush but I could not believe what was reflected in the mirror after using this!

Ingredients: Aqua, Glycerin*, Simmondsia Chinensis Oil*, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Laurate, Potassium Cetyl Phosphate, Cucumis Sativus Fruit Extract, Malva Sylvestris Flower Extract*, Sodium Hyaluronate, Mentha Piperita Leaf Extract*, Primula Veris Extract*, Alchemilla Vulgaris Extract*, Veronica Officinalis Leaf Extract*, Melissa Officinalis Leaf Extract*, Achillea Millefolium Extract*, Peucedanum Ostruthium Leaf Extract*, Buddleja Davidii Leaf Extract*, Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil*, Artemisia Umbelliformis Extract*, Tocopherol, Panthenol, Xanthan Gum, Benzyl Alcohol, Ethanol* and Dehydroacetic Acid
*Organic Ingredients

I am not a fan of selfies, but the photos pretty much speak for themselves. Pedro and Twelve Beauty, what you have is a fan for life, and I can't thank the folks at Boxwalla enough for introducing the brand to me!
P/S: Already stalking their website to see what else I can try next (cleansing cream and eye treatment I am looking at you!), but I'm also tempted to order another one-off box so I don't run out ever!

Boxwalla Beauty Twelve Beauty
A Boxwalla subscription costs $49.95 every two months, and a combined value of $218 for this box would have saved you over 75% off retail prices! A bi-monthly plan allows you to fully experience and appreciate the products that you receive in each box, and the option to switch to their other themes like film, food and books allows you to explore your varied interests.

Good news -a limited quantity of this box is still available for a one-time purchase at $59.95 here, and you can follow Boxwalla on Instagram for themes and spoilers on their next box!
