How To Handle A Summer Pregnancy (And What I Am Currently Loving)

[Credit: Shutterstock]
The second trimester, everyone will tell you, is the honeymoon period of your pregnancy and as good as it gets. My sickness did not subside until Week 22, but it was compensated by the arrival of summer which immediately lifted my mood and gave me the motivation to go out and enjoy as much me-time in the warm weather and sunshine as I could.
I went from from barely showing for a long time to my baby bump almost doubling in size overnight, and I found myself hitting the 'big belly' stage at the height of summer- thank God for summer dresses that can accommodate my ever-evolving body!

That said, I know that being pregnant in the summer is not without its challenges- growing a baby inside you leads to increased body temperatures (hello boob sweat!) and fluid retention (hello swollen ankles!), and the heat and humidity just wears you out completely. I have been alternating between being out and about and taking long naps on our couch with the ceiling fan on, because life is all about balance.

I also wanted to share with you a few of my current favorites that has made me embrace my summer pregnancy a little more:

1. Zenbunni Kathmandu Chai Coco ($20.00 for 12 oz)
I have been hearing about the magic of Zenbunni from Yenny of Eco Chic Beauty for a while now, and I finally got to try the Kathmandu Chai Coco drinking chocolate (and Queen Moon Reishi Gheenache) in the latest Boxwalla Food Box*. Made from a stress-reducing and digestive-boosting of biodynamic cacao, cane jaggery, ashwaganda, tulsi and chai spices, this is perfect to add to nut milk for a guilt-free low-sugar mid-afternoon treat.
2. Leahlani Mermaid Mask ($32.00 for 50 ml)
We didn't make it to Hawaii for our babymoon, but I get magically transported there a few times a week thanks to Leahlani's cult-favorite Mermaid Mask. Filled to the brim with nutrient-rich superfood ingredients like spirulina, raw honey and chlorella, this emerald mask will strengthen your skin cells, improve circulation, fight breakouts and moisturize, resulting in an instant afterglow. #MermaidMaskMonday is a thing on Instagram- I personally use this 2-3 times a week with the Bohemian Ruby Toner for some aloha lovin'.
This all-natural SPF30 sunscreen combines organic botanicals of neem, shatavari and rose with non-nano zinc oxide to thoroughly protect your face against harmful UVA, UVB and UVC rays. It is extremely lightweight, non-clogging, leaves no white cast- you won't even realize you're wearing sunscreen!
An innovative process transforms the blush cream into a finely milled powder, with swirls of color added before baking to give every blush a unique color imprint. This versatile copper shade works as an all-in-one blush, bronzer and highlighter, imparting a long-lasting radiance on my cheeks that is super quick to apply and perfect for the summer and I find myself reaching for this again and again. Oh, and the fact that it's ECOCERT-certified and uses sustainable bamboo packaging doesn't hurt either.

The Mineral Foundation came in the Spring Natural Beauty Box from All Natural Collection (you can see the look I created with the set here), and it was love at first swipe for me. Made from pure mineral pigments, it gives a "my skin but better" finish, lending a subtle dewiness to my complexion without looking too made-up and feels like nothing on. It helps me to look fresh as a daisy even after wandering the city all day in sweltering weather and comes with SPF25 protection. I couldn't recommend this more!
6. Bottega Organica Dual Action Body ($66.00 for 3.4 oz)
As my belly gets bigger, it has become progressively difficult to reach down and this oil and water mist allows me to moisturize and refresh my legs during the day quickly and effectively. Made from a combination of their Ligurian-farm grown olive oil infused with organic flowers and fruits and steam-distilled hydrosols, the formula rejuvenate and nourishes my skin and allows me to spray-and-go.
My mode of exercise for the second trimester has been walking, and I needed a pair of comfortable shoes that were easy to slip on and would still allow me to look put-together. This pair of linen espadrilles go with almost everything in my wardrobe and I receive compliments every time I wear them out. I am sure most of you are familiar with TOMS One for One model- I bought this from their Elizabeth Street boutique and opted to donate a pair to someone in the US.
