Move aside, MAC: A Nu Evolution Is Taking Place

Hailed by international makeup artist Kristen Arnett as "the MAC of the green world", Nu Evolution is a natural and organic cosmetic brand poised to transform the beauty industry by offering richly-pigmented and high-performing makeup with innovative formulas and chic packaging that will measure up to your favorite mainstream offerings.

The story of Nu Evolution began when powerhouse New Yorkers Nadine Cormier and Sandra Anderson-Diaz were frustrated by the lack of healthy and stylish alternatives for the toxic beauty products they were using in their daily lives and decided to team up with an expert chemist to create a line made in the US that is free of propylene glycol, phenoxyethanol, parabens, talc, artificial fragrances and other questionable ingredients commonly found in your beauty cabinet.

Despite being a young brand, Nu Evolution is already competing in the big league by participating in the runways on New York Fashion Week and becoming one of the go-to brands of movie star and sustainable maven Emma Watson. They have also been featured by the likes of Allure, Instyle, Well + Good and received nods of approval from discerning green beauty bloggers Sarita Coren, Kasey of Plein Vanity and Jessica of Bare Beauty Blog.

I am excited to share with you my thoughts on some of the products that were generously sent to me for review, but in case you couldn't tell I'm suitably impressed!

From L-R: Camouflage Cream in Flawless ($32.00), Pressed Blush in Flushed ($28.00) and Complete Coverage Foundation in 102 ($47.00)
The Complete Coverage Foundation is a liquid foundation that provides medium-to-full coverage with a matte finish, making it the perfect choice if you have a full day of events and don't want to bother with a mid-day touch up. I use a single pump to cover my face, and the formula gives a natural finish that doesn't feel heavy or cakey on my skin. If you find this too thick for the hotter seasons, I recommend wetting your foundation brush before application or diluting it with a moisturizer. Not a fan of liquid products? Try their powder foundation pressed or loose instead.

Trying to figure out the right shade online can be tough, so you may want to order the Foundation Sample Pack first. I was color matched for 102 in a Credo store, and for reference I am a Golden Glow / BB7 in Jane Iredale and a 33 in RMS.

The best-selling Camouflage Cream is a cream concealer with buildable coverage, and I know some people who skip the foundation and just use this to cover up blemishes, discoloration and trouble spots. The formula is similar to the RMS Un-Coverup and will beautifully melt into your skin, but this has the advantage of being in a convenient mirrored compact.
The Pressed Blush only comes in three shades for now, and I chose Flushed because it has been described as a dupe for cult classic Nars Orgasm. It has a silky texture with a subtle finish, and while I am sure it will show up beautifully on lighter skin tones, the blush does somewhat disappear into my face and I have had to layer it quite a bit to have it show up on my medium complexion.
Clockwise from top L: Lipstick in Chianti ($30.00), Lip Gloss in Plum ($28.00), Lipstick in Delish ($30.00) and Mascara ($28.00)
It is a challenge finding a clean mascara that doesn't clump, flake or smudge, but Nu Evolution has managed to create a Mascara that provides lengthening, volume and definition while conditioning and softening your lashes, and it ranks as one of the best I've tried! The magic lies in the brush, which allows the formula to go on smoothly and accentuate every lash, resulting in full, feathery lashes.
I decided to pick out lip products in a variety of shades so I could try out different looks. The Lip Gloss in Plum is a surprisingly pigmented neutral mauve that is hydrating without being tacky and can be worn on its own. It's a versatile shade that goes well with a daytime no-makeup look or a more intense smokey-eye look for the evenings. I absolutely the texture and finish of the gloss, although it definitely requires reapplication after a meal or coffee. Given that there are 18 shades to choose from, I'm definitely going to swatch more colors the next time I'm at Credo Beauty!
I chose two shades of lipstick from the 13 available- the vibrant Delish is a bright pink with a hint of coral that is a fun pop of color for the spring / summer months while the sophisticated Chianti bears a deep berry purple like its namesake for a more mature and put-together look (and doubles as a gorgeous blush too!). The lipsticks are formulated with a nourishing blend of oils and butter, gliding easily over your lips for a rich and long-lasting color pay-off.

I'll definitely recommend Nu Evolution to anyone looking to transition to a greener makeup kit, with the foundation, concealer, mascara and lipgloss being stand-outs for me. I hope I'm not being too greedy when I say that I would love to see Nu Evolution introduce more vibrant shades to their blush selection, and expand to include products like eye and brow pencils and highlighting powder!

You can purchase Nu Evolution Cosmetics from Credo Beauty or directly from their website, and make sure to follow them on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for their latest updates.
