12 Ways To Treat A Girlfriend Or Yourself This Galentine's Day

I get it. If you're not consciously coupled on Valentine's Day, it can kinda suck. Although I'm sure many of you are more self-assured than I was in my 20s, the truth is I spent most of it single and avoided being in public on February 14. Even as a married woman, I find the occasion overcommercialized and sets one up for unnecessarily expectations (no really, please don't spend $50 on a bunch of roses).

While I'm certainly not promoting mindless consumption here, we can all agree that what the world needs more of now is love and a little more appreciation. Here are 12 simple ways you can treat yourself or a fellow singleton to something nice this Galentine's (thank you Amy Poehler!).  Oh, and every purchase supports a small business or a female entrepreneur, so your money is well-spent.

Clockwise from Top Left:
1. On Love: A Novel ($15.00) Disclaimer: I've read this book three times, so you know how much I love this treatise on young love by Alain De Botton. He takes you through a fictional relationship the first kiss to first argument, elation to heartbreak, and everything in between with stunning clarity. Make sure you follow up with indie film 500 Days of Summer
2. Organic Bath Co. Spiced Cacao Organic Body Scrub ($27.00) Nothing says self-care like a tub of body scrub, and this luxurious blend contains antioxidant-rich cacao from Taza Chocolate and spicy Ginger Essential Oil and holiday spices. This will leave your skin buttery soft to the touch, and I won't blame you if you lick your fingers after!
3. Nudus Lipstick ($34.00) Nudus Lipsticks have had green beauty bloggers and make-up artists going ga-ga over their rich pigments and staying power, and they just released 5 gorgeous new shades (I have my eye on Viva!). Shipping is always free via The Choosy Chick with code FREESHIPNUDUS.
4. Elements Truffles Raspberry Bar ($7.00) I had one bite of this artisanal chocolate at the W.E.L.L Summit and immediately declared it the best I ever had. Based on the ancient principles of Ayurveda, their creations are raw, organic, free of dairy, GMOs and artificial flavors and infused with Ayurvedic super foods and naturally sweetened with honey. You'll want to order a few of these.

5. Rachel's Plan Bee Jasmine Body Oil ($39.00) This body oil created in collaboration with blogger Kim Wallace has been so wildly successful that it has sold out multiple times. The unforgettable combination of vanilla with jasmine sambac and jasmine grande will have you reaching for this again and again.
6. Red Apple Lipstick Blush ($23.00) When your favorite lipstick brand comes out with a range of everyday blush shades that are made to blend with a range of skintones, you sit up and take notice. Best part? You have 6 whole months to either exchange for a different shade or a refund, so you can shop at ease.
7. Keeki Pure and Simple Spicy Gift Pack ($39.99) I have tried a lot of nail polish brands, but Keeki Pure and Simple really stood out for me. Water-based and virtually odorless, it has an incredible EWG rating of 0 with a gel-like finish and longevity. This gift pack includes the base and top coat and the remover and a tinted lip balm.
8. Art of Organics Rose Quartz Facial Massager ($20.00) I've reviewed this gua sha facial tool before, and it has become part of my daily skincare routine. This will make the perfect gift for the friend who has everything else, and I especially like the handy ergonimic heart shape.

9. Boho Chic Cosmetics Swan Dance Cosmetic Bag Set ($20.00) My friend Yeiza hand-makes these pouches out of high-quality organic cotton fabric, and they will hold all your daily essentials and then some. This print is a nod to the Pantone Color of the Year, and you can also throw in some of her eyeshadows.
10. Rose Spirit Eye Dish ($32.00) These one-of-a-kind porcelain dishse with carved graphic eye motifs are individually scrulpted in Demetria Chiappos' Brooklyn studio and great for holding all your favorite treasures.
11. Urban Stems The Galentine ($50.00) Succulents are so in right now, and this Galentine set includes a pair of mini rose gold dinosaur planters with temporary besties tattoos and grown-up champagne gummy bears. This will remind your bff that you always have her back!
12. Obvious State Splendor Mug ($16.00) John Keats and watercolor florals make a pretty handsome pair, and this dishwasher-safe mug will help you enjoy your daily cuppa. Why, you can be romantic all by yourself.
And in case you're planning a party, here's the ultimate playlist for to get things started;
