The Choosy Chick Wants You To
Fall For Green Beauty

When it comes to selecting personal care products for you and your family, it pays to be choosy. Many of us are shocked to learn that the products we use on ourselves and our children every day are largely unregulated by the FDA and laden with toxic ingredients linked to cancer, infertility and developmental disorders, but it can be overwhelming to navigate through the aisles trying to decode labels and make the right decisions.
As a wife and mother of 4 boys and an educator, Margot White is committed to guiding people to make healthier choices. Her personal quest for safe and effective products led her to set up The Choosy Chick as a one-stop shop with the cleanest products at family-friendly prices. With her husband Joe who works in the healthcare industry, they developed their own Choosy Chick standard which forms the foundation for their product research and selection, and their website contains useful resources and articles to help you learn how to green up your home.

I was honored when Margot reached out to me for a collaboration because I absolutely love what she is doing. We have put together 5 great products for the perfect fall routine, although I encourage you to look through the entire range of carefully curated products on the website!

Ahnesti Puriti Uplifting Shampoo and Conditioner ($26.00 for 8 oz each)
Ahnesti (pronounced 'honesty') is one of the cleanest hair on the market, providing natural, organic and biodegradable haircare products that adhere to European Union Standards, the highest safety protocols in the world. Founder Lorri Weisen became keenly aware that what she was using on her body directly impacted her health as she watched her husband go through his second round of chemotherapy, and being a former hair stylist and salon owner it inspired her to create her own line that combined high performance with integrity ingredients.
I have been testing the Ahnesti Puriti Uplifting Shampoo and Conditioner over the last three weeks, and my hair has never been softer and smoother. While a lot of natural hair products tend to weigh my hair down and leave it oily at the roots, Ahnesti has worked really well for me. I love the fresh, delicate scent and how easy to understand the ingredients are, but I will highlight that the formula doesn't lather much since it doesn't contain any of the harsh surfactant like your conventional products. (Tip: My hair reacts better when I reverse the order of the products and condition before I shampoo, so you may want to try that!)

As I mentioned before, The Choosy Chick prides themselves on providing clean alternatives at affordable prices and Griffin Remedy is a great example. Established in San Francisco two decades ago, it offers a full range of all-natural body care products formulated with botanicals and essential oils.

The Griffin Remedy Creamy Body Wash contains Omega-3 oils and MSM to feed and nourish dry, parched skin, making this ultra-moisturizing product the perfect choice for the colder months. I chose Unscented because I slather on a variety of scented body oils after my shower and prefer not to mix scents, but there is also a Grapefruit option if you want something more refreshing. I have been surprised by how quickly I am using this up, so I may order it by the gallon next time to save on packaging waste, and I hope Margot will carry bulk options on her site to allow even more savings for her customers!

A great companion for the body wash is the Dr. Sponge Cleansing Sponge in Original, with over 90% pure konjac plant fiber. Some of you may be familiar with using a sponge on your face, but this larger-sized sponge goes smoothly across your body surface while mildly exfoliating your skin without stripping it of its essential moisture. It feels like a light caress on my body, yet it does such a thorough cleansing job. You can use this on babies and children or sensitive skin, and with proper care each sponge should last you a few months.

Ingredients for Body Wash: Purified Water, Organic Jojoba Oil, Organic Sunflower Oil, MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) Decyl Glucoside, Xanthan Gum, Algin Gum, Stearic Acid (Food Grade), Vegetable Glycerin, Kelp Extract, Organic Flaxseed oil, Borage Oil, Rose Hip Oil, Rose Oil and Rosemary Extract.

*Certified Organic
We finally arrive at HollyBeth Organics, a brand that has been on my radar for a while now. Growing up in the mountains of Georgia with a grandmother who taught her all she needed to know about plants and their medicinal properties, HollyBeth's journey began from a very young age. She handpicks ingredients and concocts unique products based on traditional homeopathic remedies from her travels around the world, her desire to make the world a better place.
The HollyBeth Organics Grits & Honey Scrub is an award-winning exfoliant made from her mother's recipe that contains just four ingredients, and it can be use on the face, decolletage and even your dry heels. The cornmeal granules are bigger than I expected, but they are gentle on the skin. I apply this to my damp face and have it on for 10-15 minutes before washing it off in the shower, and it leaves me with a glowing, radiant complexion.

Ingredients: Zea Mays (Corn) Kernel Meal*, Honey, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Organic Sweet Almond) Oil* and Tocopherol (Organic Vitamin E)
*Certified Organic

  1. This is truly a work of art, Tricia. Thanks so much for thinking of every detail... and we are glad you are enjoying our products. I am glad to hear that you leave the Grits and Honey on for a while too - we do that here also before removing. It is just too good to wash off too soon!
