Boxwalla Beauty: The Wandering Woman Returns

We first met the Wandering Woman in June when she took us through her adventures in Italy, Sweden and Morocco, and she returns to us with Boxwalla's August Beauty Box, featuring ingredients from Brazil, West Africa, Korea and beyond.
The genius of Boxwalla lies in their bi-monthly curation of under-the-radar but overachieving brands and products which manages to consistently excite subscribers in the increasingly saturated green beauty market. Even though I regularly receive products for review, every Boxwalla box is so thoughtfully tailored that each unboxing feels like a unique experience.

I received the August Beauty Box right before we moved, and it has taken a while to incorporate the products into my current hyper-minimalist beauty routine (having to wash your face over a kitchen sink while your bathroom is a renovated mess will do that to you), but I am excited to finally be able to share my thoughts with you.
Moss Skincare Healing Dew ($68.00 for 20 ml)
Moss, an acronym for Modern Organic Sacred Skincare, is a luxury youth-generating line for sensitive skin using only non-toxic ingredients, high levels of actives and botanical extracts and oils. The founder and formulator behind this modern, edgy brand is Celestyna Higgins, influenced by her eclectic background in astrophysics, fashion and yoga.
The Healing Dew (HD) is a rose-hued "anti-inflammatory hydrating serum" that works as an absorbing fluid for face oils or a lightwight moisturizer for inflamed skin (although this formula is not meant as a standalone product). It contains a myriad of healing ingredients, including cogon grass extract from Africa, designed to heal acne-prone skin by reducing inflammation and increasing barrier function efficacy while preventing trans-epidermal water loss.
I was initially confused by its purpose and found that the product did not produce any visible difference, so I reached out to Celestyna for help. She shared with me that most acneic skin have an impaired barrier that causes problems with oils being absorbed and skin being dehydrated but still oily, and clients suffering from redness and irritation report the most rapid change. She advised me that oils are extremely concentrated and with overuse can actually cause low-grade inflammation and dullness, so the HD actually dilutes the oil to make it beneficial and give the skin room to breathe. That made more sense, and I started making an emulsion with 1 full pump of the HD with 3 drops of the Odacite serum, and I have found that it keeps my skin happily plumped and moisturized on the days I am bare-faced at home.
Ingredients: Viola Papilionacea (Violet Hydrosol)*, Glycine Betaine Beta Vulgaris (Beet Sugar Extract)*, Imperata Cylindrica (Cogon Grass Root Extract)*, (Glycosphingolipids)", Dimethyl Sulfone (MSM)", Stellaria Media (Chickweed Extract)*, Eriodictyon Californicum (Yerba Santa Extract)*, Achillea Millefolium (Yarrow)*, Azadirachta Indica (Neem Extract)*, Scutellaria Galericulata (Skullcap Extract)*, Veronica Officinalis (Speedwell Ferment Extract)*, Centuarium Eythraea (Centaury Extract)*, Leuconostoc (Radish Root Ferment Filtrate)*, (Allantoin)", (Phospholipids)", Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera Extract)*; Proprietary Therapeutic Essential Oil Blend of [Citrus Bergamia (Bergamot)*, Coriandrum Sativum (Coriander)* + more)]; (Sodium PCA)", Populis Tremuloides (Aspen Bark Extract)*, Lithospermum Purpurocaeruleum (Gromwell Root Extract)*, (Lecithin)*, (Vegetable Glycerin)", Aqua (Purified Water)", (Sodium Alginate)", (Dehydroxanthan Gum)", (Konjac Glucomanan Powder)*, (Glucono Delta Lactone)".

Odacite is the perfect pairing of Californian green revolution with result-driven French skincare, and I've actually tried and loved a few sample sizes of their serums Defined by potency, freshness and purity, Odacite's concentrates allows you to mix and match your own cocktail based on your skin concerns or add a few drops to your existing moisturizer or cream to boost its performance.

The Ac+R Youthful Glow Serum featured in this box is new to me, but this little miracle worker is formulated to target all aspects of aging, including firmness, tone, texture and hydration. We may all know Brazilian acai berries to be nature's superfood, but it is rich in antioxidants and yields itself to be an effective beauty elixir when cold-pressed. The result is almost immediate, and this has definitely inspired me to explore more of their products, like their newly-launched Skin Perfecting Beauty Masque that has taken over my Instagram feed.

On a side note, the box included a sample of their Ba+S Eye Contour Serum Concentrate but it is buried somewhere in my unpacked boxes and I am praying it will show up soon!

Ingredients: Highest Grade Cold-pressed Acai (Euterpe Oleracea) Fruit Oil, Rosa Damascena (Rose) Flower Oil, Citrus Aurantium Amara (Neroli) Flower/Leaf Oil, Jasminum Sambac (Jasmine) Flower Oil, Jasminum Grandiflorum (Jasmine) Flower Oil, Cananga Odorata (Ylang Ylang) Flower Oil, Litsea Cubeba Fruit Oil, Vanillosmopsis Erythropappa (Bisabolol) Wood Oil, Canarium Lozonicum (Elemi) Gum Oil, Cedrus Atlantica (cedar) Wood Oil and Certified GMO-free Vitamin E (Tocopherols) oil

Founder Mimi Kim created ecoluxe skincare line Biodara out of a personal struggle with an autoimmune disease and blends modern science with natural and organic bioactive botanicals. When I first ventured into green beauty, I had purchased her Discovery Box for my mother-in-law, but I have actually never tried anything for myself until now.
The Creme De Clay Purifying Mask is a deep pore cleansing mask with a jelly-like consistency and dries pretty quickly on my skin, taking just 10-15 minutes to work its magic. The secret ingredient is jukyeom (roasted bamboo sea salt) from Korea which contains a high concentration of trace minerals that will extract impurities and detoxify the skin. The organic oils and plant extracts work synergistically with the bentonite clay to revitalize and refresh your skin and my face is brighter and clearer with a single use.
Ingredients: Water, Bentonite (Calcium Montmorillionite), Argentum Metallicum (Silver), Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract*, Ascophyllum Nodosum (Kelp) Extract*, Populus Tremuloides (Aspen Bark) Extract**, Roasted Bamboo Sea Salt, Argania Spinosa Kernel (Argan) Oil*, Pelargonium Graveolens (Rose Geranium) Oil* and Cymbopogon Martinii (Palmarosa) Oil*
