6 Incredible International Brands At The Indie Beauty Expo You Need To Know

We are on the cusp of a Clean Beauty Revolution, and the Indie Beauty Expo (IBE) is blazing a trail for the industry to follow.

Spearheaded by celebrity esthetician and entrepreneur Jillian Wright, IBE was created as a platform for independent beauty brands to recognize, showcase and celebrate Independent beauty, wellness and lifestyle brands. Since its inception last August, it has more than doubled in size this year with bi-coastal events in LA and NYC and will add on a third venue in Dallas next year. You better mark your calendar folks!

The sold-out event was held over two days and took over 30,000 square feet of the Metropolitan Pavilion this year, and I was able to attend both the private media preview and the trade event, which gave me plenty of time to connect with many of the 130 brands in attendance as well as green beauty buddies (hello Amber, Amanda, Molly, Lisa, Yeiza and Abigail!) and founders.

While I will slowly be uncovering and introducing some of my favorite discoveries from the expo over the next few months, I want to highlight 6 international brands that had travelled thousands of miles to New York to exhibit:

1. Akar Skin from Hong Kong

Akar means "white crystal" in Tibetan and symbolizes the purity of this Tibetan-inspired skincare line. Partnering with Tibetan farmers and using only natural, organic or wild-harvested botanicals gathered from the vast elevated plateau, all their products are formulated and manufactured in small batches in-house to ensure their quality and potency.

I was most impressed with their Nutrient Boost Eye Serum, infused with goji seed oil rich in essential fatty acids, along with pumpkin seed oil, mushroom extract and other nourishing plant extracts to tighten and rejuvenate tired skin.

2. Chidoriya Skincare from Japan

Immerse yourself in the world of traditional Japanese beauty rituals with Chidoriya Skincare- originally established in Kyoto, Japan in 1949 as a trendsetting line of beauty accessories for geishas and maikos, they ventured into the world of natural and organic skincare using Japanese ingredients like azuki, camelia seed, gettou, hinoki and yuzu.

I recommend their Yuzu Seed Cleansing Balm (best used with their organic cotton and silk cloth), which will effectively remove all traces of your makeup and gently exfoliate your skin to reveal a smooth and radiant complexion. The texture is unlike anything I have tried before, and the subtle citrus scent will lull you into a wonderful state of calm and relaxation.

3. Eco Modern Essentials from Australia

Eco Modern Essentials was founded over two decades ago in Queensland, Australia and they pride themselves in quality products at an affordable price point, using cutting-edge techology to develop safe and natural products that actually perform. They offer an extensive range of products for your face and body, using ingredients are certified organic and ethically sourced.
Try their Eco C Serum, a Vitamin C serum rich in antioxidants and anti-aging properties that will help reduce redness and pigmentation while increasing skin elasticity, hydration and cell rejuvenation to leave you with a more even-toned, radiant glow all day.
4.  Edible Beauty from Australia

This luxury Australian brand is the creation of naturopath and nutritionist Anna Mitsio, and it draws its namesake from the fact that their products are good enough to injest. Backed by the philosophy that beauty comes from both inside and out, they offer both skincare products, herbal beauty elixirs and wild-crafted teas containing evidence-based therapeutic botanicals.
I have my eye on their & Desert Lime Flawless Micro-Exfoliant, a brightening rice-grain face polish fortified with camellia oil, coconut oil and cocoa butter as well as strawberry and lime fruit extracts. Sounds like a recipe for a healthy smoothie!
5. INUF Responsible Skincare from Hong Kong

INUF stands for I Never Use Foundation, a nod to the founder's response to people who frequently ask her what foundation or face powder she uses. Developed by a team of top beauty experts from Hong Kong and California, their formulas are targetted for the more humid climates in Asia, whilest still nourishing enough to protect the skin from harsher climates and environmental stressors.

I love their Sun Block: Nourishing SPF 40 White which melts into the skin beautifully, a vitamin E sunscreen with micronized titanium dioxide particules to provide coverage against UVA and UVB rays, and infused with oxygen particles and mandarin extract to nourish and brighten your skin.

6. Max and Me from Austria

At the very heart of Max and Me is the radiant, devoted love between founders Tanja and Max, inspired by their journeys throughout the world and deep connection to nature. All their products are created with precious, cold-pressed carrier oils and highly vibrant essential oils, specially formulated to bring harmony to all skin types and allow your natural beauty to surface.
Their entire line is incredible, but if I had to pick a favorite it would be their Enchanted Face Oil, a rare blend of beauty oils to pamper and regenerate your skin, and a heavenly blend of jasmine, frangpani, champaca, rose, sandalwood and lavender that will encourage heartwarming energy to flow onto your face. The results are nothing short of magical.

Jillian and her A-team absolutely knocked it out of the park this year, and I know it's only just ended but I am already looking forward to what next year has in store. My dream? To see some Singaporean brands in the line-up next year and for IBE expand its presence to Asia. I'm so on board!
