Reflecting Beauty From The Inside Out

On my recent trip back to Singapore I had the pleasure of meeting with Nerissa Low, founder of newly-launched Reflections Organics. We quickly bonded over coffee, and her personal story impressed me as much as her extensive range of products.
Her successful day job in finance has her jet-setting around the world, and her travel experiences inspired her to start her own natural and organic makeup line that is free of parabens, synthetic dyes, fragrances and nano particles. Reflections is actually not her first foray into the green beauty space- she also runs online boutique Katharos Organics carrying Eminence from Hungary and Wild Nature from Australia.

A Reflections Organics woman, Nerissa explains, is a woman of all seasons. She believes that a woman can and should be multi-faceted, and that true beauty comes from looking inside yourself. Beyond growing Reflections as a brand, her long-term goal is to promote holistic living and conduct workshops to empower women and communities.

I had sampled and swatched a lot of the products at a pop-up display, and she kindly offered to send me a few products to review. The beauty blogger in me wanted to try everything, but I sensibly picked out products that were more unique and/or multi-tasking.

Anti-Aging BB Cream ($46.00 for 15 ml / 0.5 oz)
This multi-functional Anti-Aging BB Cream is designed to be a moisturizer, primer, foundation and sunblock all at once, which is great for someone who is looking to simplify their makeup routine. The peptipes palmitoyl tripeptide and palmitoyl oligopeptide work together to help your skin produce more collagen and elastin, which makes it potent for skin healing and rejuvenation.

I have the BB Cream in the shade Medium which is a perfect match for my summer skintone. The product comes in a sleek, airless pump bottle and I only need a small pump to cover my entire face. As you can tell from the photos, the product blends in beautifully and also helps to lighten and conceal some of the scarring on my hand. It stays on all day, although I always recommend wearing loose powder to set your make-up. The small size makes it perfect to throw into your travel/gym bag, but I would have love to see a 1-oz bottle.
The cream does contain Dimethicone, which I know some of my green beauty purists prefer to avoid and can trigger an allergic reaction for some people, but I personally do not have a major issue with it. I will also point out that all Reflections formulas are vegan and cruelty-free, and the propanediol used here is a natural petroleum-free glycol that is derived from corn.
Ingredients: Aqua, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Glycerin, Dimethicone, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Stearic Acid, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil, Cetyl Alcohol, Triethanolamine, Palmitoyl Oligopeptide, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7, Mica. Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Zinc Oxide (CI 77947), Iron Oxides (CI 77492, CI 77491, CI 77499), Caprylic Acid, Lauric Acid, Propanediol, Potassium Sorbate
Night Treatment Powder ($52.00 for 10g)
The Sun Protection Powder happened to be out of stock, so Nerissa recommended me the Night Treatment Powder instead. I had compared the ingredients and they were pretty similiar, except the Night Treatment Powder contains hydrolyzed oat protein which gives the skin a soft-cushiony texture and helps retain more moisture and Niacinamide, a form of Vitamin B3 that has anti-aging and anti-inflammatory properties.  The string of glycols in the ingredient list had raised some red flags, but Nerissa assured me that all of them are plant-derived and safe to use on your face.

The idea behind this product is for women to be able to look as wonderful when they go to bed as they do during the day, but I do think it is important to let your skin breathe at night, especially if you wear makeup on a near-daily basis like me. My night routine is pretty elaborate, but I decided to give it a go for a week. This means double-cleanse, tone and treat, followed by dusting a light layer of the powder after my face oil and another spritz of toner so that my face doesn't feel dry.  However I'm still not warmed up to the idea of wearing powder to sleep, so this will stay in my daytime makeup pile.

This product acts as a mineral foundation / loose powder and will minimize the appearance of your pores and even out your skintone, so I see this as a great product for when I am working from home or out running quick errands. It only comes in a one shade but seems to just adjust itself to my skintone. Nerissa also told me that some customers choose to transfer the powder to the Powder Dispensing Brush for easier application, which is such a nifty hack!

Ingredients: Mica, Tapioca Starch, Illite, Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Oxide, Caprylic Capric Triglyceride, Glyceryl Isostearate, Polyhydroxy Stearic Acid, Isostearic Acid, Polyhydroxystearic Acid, Lecithin, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Oil, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Oil, Iron Oxide CI 77492, Hydrolyzed Oat Protein, Adenosine Triphosphate, Niacinamide, Butylene Glycol, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Hexylene Glycol
These 85% organic Lip Butters are made with a nourishing base of organic jojoba, avocado and coconut oils and organic cocoa, mango and capuaçu butters that will plump, hydrate and heal your lips while adding a lovely pop of color to your face at the same time. These handy also double as cream blushes, so it is a handy product to have in your purse for your afternoon touch-ups.

A word of advice- I had thrown Apricot into my handbag and was out and about all day and the lip butter unfortunately melted a little because of the tropical sun, so make sure you store this product somewhere cool. (All you have to do is stick the Lip Butter into the fridge for at least an hour and it will be good to go again.)

Available in 8 delectable shades, I chose Apricot and Watermelon, described as a matte peach and matte coral respectively. I normally gravitate towards brighter pinks and reds, but I decided to try out something in a more everyday, natural shade for the No Makeup makeup look for Spring. The formula is very creamy and goes on sheer but can be layered for intensity.

    1. Thanks for stopping by and your kind words Tianna! I know some people react to dimethicone so that's a real bummer, but I'm glad there are other dimethicone-free options out there! :)
