The Marie Veronique Pro Essentials

I have had my eye on Marie Veronique for a while now, so I was beyond excited when I receive the Pro Essentials Starter Kit set from my Green Beauty Secret Santa last Christmas.
I had brought the set along with me on my recent trip to London but did not account for the fact that the water in England is very hard (owing to the high content of limestone and chalk in the River Thames), so my face never really felt clean there despite my best efforts. I am glad to share that that has not been the experience once I returned to New York and I have discovered a few hero products in the line!
Marie Veronique receives its namesake from founder and formulator Marie Veronique Nadeau who, along with her physicist / biomedical engineer daughter Jay, started the skincare line over 10 years ago with the aim to change the way skincare is created and provide safe and highly effective products that create results instead of hype.
As a former Chemistry teacher and licensed esthetician, Marie is the real deal, and you can rest assure that everything she develops is backed by in-depth research and cutting-edge science. Her products are specially designed to combat various skin concerns like hyperpigmentation, acne, sun protection and aging.
In a blog post introducing the Marie Veronique PRO line, Marie explains that PRO 'stands for all things pro, like probiotics, promicrobial and promotion of reason—rather than ‘anti-aging,’ which is tantamount to being anti-living.' Given that the efficacy of her products speak for themselves, the positive rhetoric certainly resonates with me.
Cleanser De Jour ($40.00 for 4 oz) and Mist De Jour ($35.00 for full-size)
The first step in my routine is use two pumps of the Cleanser De Jour to remove my makeup and the daily grime. An oil cleanser with a nourishing base of safflower, sunflower and apricot kernel oil, the secret lies in the ingredient superoxide dismutase (SOD), an enzyme that delays the effects of aging by reducing damage by the superoxide anion.
I noticed on some days that I would be pumping out a milky substance due to something settling at the bottom of the bottle, and when I reached out to Marie Veronique I was told that was due to the SOD, and their advice was to shake the bottle vigorously to make sure that the contents were well-distributed. As with my other oil cleansers, I also have found that it works best with the use of a warm damp cloth (I love my organic bamboo washclothes). On days that I wear heavier makeup, I do a double-cleanse to make sure that I get everything off.
Ingredients: Carthamus tinctorius (safflower) seed oil, Helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, Prunus armeniaca (apricot) kernel oil, decyl polyglucoside (polyglucose), sucrose cocoate, mixed tocopherols (vitamin E) oil, probiotic complex, Rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) oleoresin, superoxide dismutase, pelargonium graveolens (rose geranium) and lavandula angustifolia (lavender) essential oils
The second step is the Mist De Jour that I spray liberally all over my face. What sets this toner apart is that it contain a complex of over 34 probiotic live strains to help balance the skin microbiota and reduce inflammation that can cause skin irritation, rashes and rosacea. The coconut water actively hydrates and the green tea minimize oxidative stress, while the sodium salicylate and licorice extract both calms and protects the skin. While I don't mind that the mist has a more distinct medicinal smell compared to other toners I have, it may take some getting used to.
Ingredients: Camellia sinensis (green & white tea) infusion, Cocos nucifera (coconut) water, Glycyrrhiza glabra (licorice) root extract, n-acetyl glucosamine, niacinamide, beta glucan, sodium salicylate, Leucidal (leuconostoc/radish root ferment), Calendula officinalis (Calendula) flower hydrosol, probiotic complex, lavandula angustifolia (lavender), carota daucus (carrot seed), curcuma longa (turmeric), helichrysum italicum (helichrysum) and myrtus communis  (green myrtle) essential oils
L - R: Serum Du Jour ($90.00 for full-size) and Oil Du Jour ($90.00 for 2 oz)
While my face is still damp from the mist, I massage 4-5 drops of the Oil Du Jour into my skin (but you can use up to 20 drops for very dehydrated skin). My favorite product in the line, this rich and highly moisturizing blend comes in Vegan and Extra Healing, with the latter contains emu oil, a monounsaturated fatty acid that draws its profound healing powers from oleic acid (aka omega-9).
This hardworking product contains oils like pomegrenate seed, tomato seed, red raspeberry seed and brocolli seed from the carotenoid family, which gives it UV-protective capabilities and can be used during the day as an extra sun and environmental protection. It also contains oils rich in antioxidants like kiwi seed, chia seed and algae oil, and is also very emollient thanks to the oil from plants that live in very harsh conditions like the prickly pear. My skin happily drinks up the oil, which imparts a lovely glow without any residual stickiness.
Ingredients: Camellia oleifera (camellia) oil, Limnenthes alba (meadowfoam) seed oil, Simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) oil, Borago officinalis (borage) oil, Persea americana (avocado) oil, Olea europaea (olive) oil, Actinidia deliciosa (kiwi) seed oil, Salvia hispanica (chia seed) oil, Rubus idaeus (red raspberry) seed oil, Sesamum indicum (sesame seed) oil, Calophyllum inophyllum (tamanu) oil, mixed tocopherols (vitamin E), Brassica oleracea italica (broccoli seed) oil, Punica granatum (pomegranate seed) oil, astaxanthin, Opuntia ficus indica (barbary fig seed) oil, Rosa rubignosa (rosehip) seed oil, algae oil, Lycopersicon esculentum miller (tomato seed) oil, Rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) oleoresin, helichrysum italicum (helichrysum), cananga odorata (ylang ylang) and myrtus communis (green myrtle) essential oils
The Serum Du Jour is an step that I sometimes take after I apply the Oil Du Jour if my skin feels like it needs an extra boost. The synergistic combination of ferulic acid with vitamins C and E promote skin health and vibrancy and protects the skin from environmental stress. If you prefer not to use retinol, you can use the serum as your moisturising night serum, and the formula does not contain sodum benzoate which can cause irritation for some. It is very lightweight and you only need a thin layer for it to work its magic.
Ingredients: Camellia sinensis (green and white tea), Olea europaea (olive) oil, Citrus aurantium (neroli) hydrosol, Lavandula angustifolia (lavender) hydrosol, sodium salicylate, isododecane (stabilized L-ascorbic acid), mixed tocopherols (vitamin E), ferulic acid, probiotic complex, glucosamine HCl, niacinamide (vitamin B3), astaxanthin, coenzyme-Q, non-GMO lecithin, xanthan gum, Psidia altissima (lary), Helichrysum italicum (helichrysum) and lavandula angustifolia (lavender) essential oils
Eye Recovery Serum ($75.00 for full-size)
Finally, I dab a little Eye Recovery Serum along my upper and lower lids. My second favorite product in the line, it is a gentle but potent serum that works to strengthen and rejuvenate the delicate skin around the eyes. Don't be intimidated by some of the unpronounceable ingredients- aminoguanadine and L-carnosine both fight premature aging and N-acetyl-glucosamaine and niacinamide work together to brighten skin and help with your dark circles. I love how quickly the serum is absorbed and plumps my undereye to make me look more alive!
Ingredients: Camellia sinensis (green & white tea) infusion, Olea europaea (olive) oil, Citrus aurantium (neroli) hydrosol, Lavandula angustifolia (lavender) hydrosol, Isododecane (stabilized l-ascorbic acid), mixed tocopherols (vitamin E) oil, Leucidal (leuconostoc/radish root ferment), Populus tremuloides (aspen) bark extract, xanthan gum, sodium salicylate, ferulic acid, n-acetyl glucosamine, niacinamide, non-GMO sunflower lecithin, silicon cross polymer, carnosine, dipalmitoyl hydroxyproline, aminoguanadine, helichrysum italicum (helichrysum), lavandula angustifolia (lavender) and myrtus communis (green myrtle) essential oils
It is easy for me to see how Marie Veronique has won herself so many brand devotees, and I must say I have been pretty impressed with everything I have tried. The Pro Essentials Starter Kit is available at the friendly price point of $55.00 and the products will last you a good 2-3 months. If you prefer to invest in a full-size product, I would most recommend the Oil Du Jour and Eye Recovery Serum. More importantly, all purchases come with a 30-day money-back guarantee if you don't see results, so you can shop with confidence!

Good news- new customers can use the code WELCOME12 to get 12% off their first order!
