Red Apple Lipstick Kisses

I love a good lipstick. There is nothing like a pop of color on your lips to transform your look, and whenever I have on a bold red shade I always get compliments for it.
Since going green I have been on the lookout for clean and high-performing lip products, and I must have tried at least half a dozen brands before a clear favorite emerged.

RAL Instant Color Formula lipsticks ($23.50 each),
RAL Lipgloss* ($18.50) and RAL Lip Pencil* ($22.90)
Red Apple Lipstick (RAL) was started in 2007 by Jay Adam Harper, who along with his adorable wife Andrea was inspired to create makeup that was safe for women of all ages with allergies. All their products are handmade in small batches in Texas so you know that every item you receive is made fresh, and they adhere to the most stringent storage and handling procedures.
Through sheer word-of-mouth, RAL has established itself as a cult favorite in the green beauty world. While conventional lipsticks often contain lead and other nasties like BHA, parabens, propylene glycol, petrolateum and fragrance, RAL is committed to using only the highest quality ingredients and is (hold your breath ladies!) gluten-free, paraben-free, lead-free, soy-free, vegan and cruelty-free.
RAL has over 40 beautiful lipstick colors and almost 20 lipgloss shades, and it is honestly impossible to pick a favorite because different occasions call for different looks, so I own 6. (How's that for self-justification, haha!) For the purpose of this post, however, I will only be featuring the two shades I most recently bought and the lip gloss and lip pencil that they kindly sent me for review.
L - R: Coral Crush and Heart 'N Soul
Many of my old lipsticks would either dry my lips out and leave them a sad, peeling mess after a few hours or they would transfer all too easily onto my teeth and I'd have to constantly check myself in the mirror. With my RAL lipsticks, however, the smooth and creamy formula glides on like a dream and the Vitamin E heals and hydates my lips as I apply them on.
Coral Crush is a pinkish-orange that is described as the "epitome of a true coral color" and it is such a wearable everyday color. Heart 'N Soul is a highly-pigmented red lipstick with a touch of fuschia pink and looks especially good if your skin tone has a warm or neutral undertone.
All RAL colors are very buildable, but because the colors blend with the natural pigment of your lips, they will show up different on everyone. In order to have the "true" color to come through they recommend applying a dab of foundation on your lips before applying your lipstick.
Ingredients for Instant Color Formula: 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Sunflower Oil, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Butyrospermum Parkii, Synthetic Beeswax, All Natural Gluten Free - Soy Free - Corn Free Vitamin E Tocopheryl Acetate
It is hard to find a lip gloss that is not sticky or overly shiny, so the Nude Peppermint Lip Gloss gets a double thumbs up from me. It is a very flattering nude that can be worn on its own or over any lip color for a subtle sheen. It has a longer staying power than my other glosses, plus I love that it is infused with peppermint essence (which is especially helpful for a coffee drinker like myelf). Thanks to their secret formula, my lips felt very smooth and moisturized even after the gloss had worn off!
Ingredients for Lipgloss: Palma Christi Oil, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Aloe Barbadensis, Roman Anthemis Nobilis (Chamomile) Extract, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Extract, Hypericum Perforatum (St John's Wort) Extract, Essence of Peppermint
Swatches from L - R : Heart N Soul, Coral Crush, Nude Peppermint Lipgloss and Natural Lip Pencil

I normally don't use a lipliner, and I was surprised by how much I liked the Natural Lip Pencil. As part of RAL's winter offering,  it is the perfect nude color to outline and define my lips for a flawless pout. If you are wearing a darker lip color, this will also prevent it from bleeding onto the skin around your lip. Created to co-ordinate with almost any lip color, it is such a popular choice that it is now out of stock on the website (but they are making some more!).
Ingredients for Lip Pencil: Rhus Verniciflica Peel Wax, Coco Glycerides, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Caprylic/Capric Oil, Mica, Soy Lecithin
Assortment of lipstick samples ($3.50 per pod)
As a brand, one of the first things that struck me was their use of everyday women of different ethnicities and ages for their product photos, which is such a refreshing change from the photoshopped models I have become used to.

They treat their customers like family and this is reflected in every interaction I have had with them. You will also be happy to know that they have a 6-month money-back guarantee or exchange for any product you purchase from them. One of the shades I had ordered did not compliment my skin tone and I was able to swap the lipstick for another with no questions asked, and they even sent me the new one with a whole bunch of different samples to play with! The outstanding service is what will keep me as a satisfied and repeat customer.

GOOD NEWS: You can use the code NIHAO22 for 22% off orders above $50 on the Red Apple Lipstick site. Have fun shopping!
