100% Pure Coffee Aficionado

I fancy myself a bit of a coffee aficionado, so when I found out that 100% Pure carried a range of products made with coffee bean extracts, I knew I had to get my hands on them.

100% Pure was founded 10 years ago in Napa by Chinese Korean entrepreneur Suzie Wong. It is an organic cosmetics beauty with a dizzying selection of healthy skincare, color cosmetics and bath and body products. In an interview with Korean Times, she talked about growing up with her chef dad who created dishes from scratch using only organic ingredients, and his philosophy has defined her approach to product formulation.
The name 100% Pure reflects the fact that the entire line is 100% natural and cruelty-free and free of artificial colors, artificial fragrances, synthetic chemical preservatives and all other harmful toxins. The brand is a cult-favorite amongst green beauty enthusiasts and the company has managed to double its revenue every year since its inception without using traditional marketing strategies and sends out as many as 50,000 orders a day (!!!).
The bestselling Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream, is "concentrated with potent anti-aging vitamins, antioxidants, and nourishing rosehip oil to make eye area appear more awake and more youthful" and boasts of celebrity fans like Tom Cruise, Madonna and Reese Witherspoon. Caffeine is a popular ingredient for eye products, because of its ability to constrict blood vessels and reduce inflammation and also acts as a diuretic to make your skin smoother.
The cream comes in a squeeze tube with a tiny nozzle and I have found that I only need to gently pat a pinhead-sized amount into the delicate under-eye area. The combination of coffee and vanilla absolute gives the cream a faint milk coffee scent, but it is virtually indetectable as you massage it on. The formula is creamy but lightweight and well-absorbed into the skin thanks to the base of organic aloe juice. It also contains Vitamin C and E, two antioxidants that work together to protect the skin against harmful UV rays and prevent skin cancer.
I notice my under-eye area is immediately plumped and hydrated after application, making my eyes look more alert. However, I don't have panda eyes or crow's feet so it is difficult for me to comment on how well it would perform for those concerns, but the website does claim that that 93% of customers said it reduced the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles with continued use. I love how it moisturizes my eyes without caking or creasing and works perfectly under my eye makeup.
The main sell of the product is its accessible price point and I would definitely recommend it to anyone seeking a natural product for their undereyes. A green beauty guru once told me that prevention is always better than cure and that you're never too young to start on eye care. It is admittedly a part of my skincare routine that I often neglect but I am going to try to be more diligent and consistent with it!

Caffeine Mask ($28 for a 5-pack)

This Caffeine Mask is the cousin of the Korean cotton sheet masks that are quickly gaining popularity in the US (even though they have been popular in Asia for many years now). The mask material is a hydrogel that consists of 95% water and 5% plant cellulose designed to hydrate your skin intensely, and the longer you leave the mask on the more it begins to thin out.

The suggested time is 15-20 minutes but I usually leave it on for 30-40 minutes after I have cleansed my face so that my skin can absorb as much goodness as the mask offers. I have found that the secret is misting my face before to ensure the mask stays on, otherwise it easily slips off my face when I move my head and I end up having to tilt my head back in an awkward position.

Each mask is meant to be for a one-time use, but the scrimpy Asian in me (don't judge!) use it twice because the mask only depletes a little after the first time. I try not to get the "juice" all over myself when I remove the mask from the package, and I am done I place the mask back the same way and store it upright in the fridge until I am ready to reuse it (within a couple of days).

Yes, the mask looks ridiculous on but the hydrogel has an incredible soothing effect on my skin and I love how it makes my complexion noticeably brighter and glowier. There is also no need to wash my face again because the residue acts as a serum. Talk about a double-win! I have been handing these out to my friends because it has been such an effective product for me and I love sharing the joy.

Over the past year I have tried a lot of 100% Pure products and even my hard-to-please husband is a fan of their soap bars. (He says it is unlike anything else he has ever used before, which is high praise coming from him!) They constantly have sales and promotions going on, so I recommend that you sign up onto their mailing list or follow them on social media to be kept in the loop.

P/S: I have been drinking a lot of Larry's Coffee- I discovered them at my favorite natural market in the neighborhood. Their beans are fair trade, organic, shade grown and slow-roasted to bring out every note of indigenous flavor. Plus they are a B-Certified corporation, which means they are committed to use their business as a force for good, and their awesome green facilities utilize solar energy, local biodiesel, composting and rainwater harvesting to minimize their impact on their environment. I get a slight panic attack when we're running low!

Have you tried any other green beauty coffee products?
Which is your favorite?
